The Other Extreme…

This post is in response to the ‘100 Word challenge’ here, where you will find a list of links to many other responses. The given subject is simply GREY.

This year saw the celebration of our Queen’s diamond jubilee – only the second such event in the history of the monarchy, the first, of course, being that of Queen Victoria. But what about the other end of the scale?

Queen of England for only nine days.

Nominated as the successor to the throne by a dying king aged just fifteen, she evidently accepted the crown with considerable reluctance. Certainly, she did not contend for it. This, however, did not save her from execution for treason, which she accepted with grace that only inspires awe.

Truly, an amazing woman.

Lady Jane Grey.

  1. I guess there are times when you have to just go with the flow. I like that we should remember her though as she was just as great as V and Ell – just in a different way.

I toyed with the idea of Lady Jane but couldn’t come up with anything I liked. Glad I didn’t now coz I couldn’t have done it this well. I love the comparison with the diamond jubilee.

  3. What an inspired piece. I’d toyed with doing something about all the rain, but couldn’t get it together this week. Really like this.

This is great. I love history – and written so well too. The past has sort of become part of the present in this one – and vice-versa I suppose. What a brilliant take on the prompt. Am I making sense?
(I’ve posted mine meanwhile on Julia’s Posterous – Midlife is ‘full up’ 🙂 )

  5. Lovely, another inspiring piece of writing. x
