The Reason is Clear…

This post is in response to the ‘100 word challenge’ here, where you’ll also find a list of links to other responses. In principle, the brief was to write 105 words, including the five shown in bold below.

It is evident that being clear is essential to the setting out of  the text of regulations in an acceptable manner, so as to render them enforceable. For instance, you might say that ‘at night, bicycles used on public roads must carry lights’ but that alone is not enough. It needs to be clear that the lights (white at the front and red at the rear) should be switched on and also not be obscured by other objects!

And as for all the regulations to do with motor vehicles…

But, for now, just take a look at this example of clarity from a local authority!

  1. I like the 100 words and thoroughly agree but I’m not sure what’s confusing about the picture. Is it that the day should be Sunday with the date following? I’m coming back to check the comments later – maybe someone else spotted it. – Maybe the ambiguity of ‘up’ as in facing up or standing up?

  2. What an interesting take on the prompt. I’m not sure what’s confusing about the picture, but I do agree things should be made clear. x
